CHANUKAS HATORAH

Chanukas Hatorah - Parshas Tetzaveh

Why is Moshe’s name not mentioned even once in this parsha?

(27,20) “And you shall command the children of Yisrael and they shall take to you pure olive oil, crushed for lighting, to kindle the lamps continually.”

It says in the Midrash that Moshe’s words when he prayed for Yisrael after the sin of the golden calf - “erase me please from Your book” (Shemos 32:32) - were fulfilled in parshas Tetzaveh, where the name of Moshe is not mentioned even once.

According to this Midrash we can explain the Yalkut Shimoni on sefer Yehoshua, which teaches that when Moshe said “if Your presence does not go, do not take us up from here” (Shemos 33:15) he pushed away the angel Michael until the days of Yehoshua, where he said “I am the captain of the host of Hashem, now I have come”. We see from this that whenever Moshe was present the angel Michael had no standing, only when Moshe was absent. Therefore, parshas Tetzaveh where the name of Moshe is not mentioned has a hundred and one posukim, which is the gematria of Michael.
